On the bus on the way to Heraklion, there is an English speaking guide with you. First, you go to Herakleion where you have plenty of time to visit this incredible city, to have dinner, to do the shopping and for an optional visit to the Archeological Museum, where you can find items from Knossos Palace! Later you will go to Knossos where you have 1,5 hours to visit Palace on your own, with individual rhythm.
ITINERARY
Knossos site was continuously inhabited from the Neolithic period (7000 to 3000 B.C) until Roman times. Center of the famous Minoan civilization, Knossos palace was the house of King Minos and the legendary Minotaur was living in the labyrinth of Knossos palace!
The Minoan civilization as well as the palace was destroyed by the explosion of the Santorini Volcano. The excavation conducted by Arthur Evans 1900-1913 and 1922-1930 brought to light the grand palace of Knossos, along with other great findings of immense importance concerning the culture and the life of the Minoans, which are kept at the archeological museum of Heraklion.
Knossos Palace has many thousands of visitors every year, all year long! Tourists, individuals, students, professors, school teams, and many others visit the site every day!
