Menies or Diktyna is located 45km northwest of Chania town, on the NE shores of Peninsula Rodopos. It is a small but beautiful isolated beach with pebbles and crystal blue deep waters. The usual wind in the area do not affect the beach making it the perfect solution on windy days!
In Menies beach there are on taverns or canteens, actually the last sigh of modern civilization is many km far from the beach! You should be well organized before getting there by car or by boat!
The access to Menies is not easy, you have to drive in a long dusty truck (about 23km) starting from Rodopos village. The road heads on Menies beach, but is not recommended for low cars. The most ideal way to reach the beach is by boat!
Menies beach is located on the site of ancient Diktynna, which was the most important temple of the goddess Vritomartis.
Vritomartis was the Cretan version of goddess Artemis. Thousands worshippers used to come in the area from all over the island, via the road that connected the sanctuary to the ancient town of Polirinia!
