Imbros gorge tour starts from Kolymbari at 07:30, picking up everyone from the main road and arriving at the entrance of the gorge at 09:30. There you stop for a small breakfast, and around 10:00 you start hiking the gorge after you pay a 2,5€ entrance fee.

Imbros gorge tour hiking is much easier than Samaria. The hiking lasts 2 to 3 hours and can be easily walked by children as well! Most of the hiking is under shade and the gorge is open all year round! That means gorge hiking lovers can walk Imbros gorge when Samaria is closed (end of October up to early May).

The Cretan landscape is amazing combining beautiful beaches, gorges, wild sceneries, mountains, and old villages. The Sfakia area is one of the wildest parts of Crete and because of the uniqueness of the landscape, it was never easily accessed by the enemy (Turks, German army e.t.c.). This alone is a reason to visit the gorge and Chora Sfakion village by the sea! The route to Chora Sfakion gives a breathtaking view! Another reason is to taste the traditional delicacies like the sfakian pie!

1. 07:30 – 08:30 PICKUP
2. 09:30 ARRIVAL IN IMBROS, COFFEE BREAK
3. 10:00 START HIKING
4. 13:00 ARRIVAL AT THE EXIT IN KOMITADES VILLAGE AND DEPARTURE FOR CHORA SFAKION WHERE YOU HAVE FREE TIME FOR LUNCH AND SWIMMING.

Imbros gorge information

Imbros Gorge is located in the province of Sfakia and is the second most visited gorge in Crete, following the Samaria Gorge, both belonging to the E4 European hiking path.

It crosses the island vertically, parallel to the gorge of Samaria.

It starts from Imbros small village 700 meters above sea level and ends at Komitades village on the main road to Plakias.

The scenery is beautiful and the low difficulty makes the descent of Imbros ideal for families with children. The gorge length is 11 km and the course lasts 2-3 hours.

USEFUL TIPS

1. You need comfortable shoes to walk the gorge. Make sure they are not brand new so they fit you well while hiking.
2. You can buy food and drinks from the gorge entrance. After the gorge, you buy anything you need from Komitades village or Chora Sfakion.
3. For the Imbros gorge tour, ensure you carry only the necessary in your bag to avoid the extra weight.
4. Make sure you use high-protection sun cream.
5. The guide speaks native Polish and English every Thursday!
